jmo, but I'd save the bluing for last and have it ALL done at once so the colors all match.

been a while since i posted on this one, but on the way to visit some family in ocala saturday i decided to stop in to Dow arms, to be a squeaky wheel so to speak, and i am glad that i did. they had a smith corona o3a3 receiver that is going to do just fine for my project. now to find a suitable stock. :rockon

picked the receiver up today, and also found that they had a bishop stock, that only needs inlet a little bit. Mr. Dow pulls out a new 03a3 barrel, which will match my receiver, and a lyman 48s micrometer rear peep sight that will nearly match the one on my great grandfathers rifle. Right now i have spent $245 i have about another $100-200 dollars to spend on this project, before cerakote or optics, not sure i will ever add optics, as this will be a gun used predominantly in Florida. i will post some more pics soon.

I have been unable to find any high number springfield receivers, but i did find a place out of ohio that just ran out of remington 03a3receivers, and still has some smith corona 03a3 receivers. These receivers came out of drill guns, and have been magnafluxed and refinished. guess my blueing work is all for naught, as i dont think blueing will come out good on the receivers, but i might still try. maybe after the build i will have it painted with duracoat, or cerakote.
duracoat if ya only wanna lok at it. cerakote if ya gonna use it
