GRASS SHRIMP
Anyone know of a source for freshwater grass shrimp in or around north Fla., i.e. Gainesville, Jacksonville, Palatka, Lochloosa, Rodman, Keystone Heights, Starke, Citra, Waldo?
I'd like to try to get a name and phone number so I can call and verify they got some before I head out.
Thanks.

Re: GRASS SHRIMP
I finally found a source for grass shrimp. It is in Grove Park between Hawthorne and Gainesville. Call Dale at 352-234-9918 for directions. She normally has plenty but call ahead 'cause they can run out fast. Also, take a look a the set up she recommends for keeping them fresh and lively. I bought one and it works like a champ. She even showed me how to hook the shrimp so it looks natural. I fished Newnan's Lake this past Wednesday and caught a mixed bag of shell crackers, bluegills, crappie and channel cats.

I just catch them in the shallow weedy shoreline with a bait net.
It only takes few minutes to catch a dozen or two.
They are great for catching breams.

Re: GRASS SHRIMP
2 channel cats, 3 crappie, rest were blue gills and shell crackers, about 50/50 each for a total of 30. A few of the bluegills had roe in them and all of the shell crackers were full of roe.
Like kc45 said you can get your own shrimp with a net but I prefer to buy them from Dale so I don't spend fishing time catching shrimp. I have found good numbers of shrimp in the bull rushes along the west shore of Newnans.
You can keep the shrimp for about a day, maybe two if you keep them chilled in a small cooler. Get Dale to show you how.
I caught all of mine on Newnans near the mouth of Prairie Creek. I heard that some folks were doing pretty good on the northeast side of the lake north of the Windsor ramp. I ran up there late in the day when it was blistering hot and didn't see anyone.
The water is up pretty good in Newnans. It's the highest I've seen it in years.
Hope this helps.

Well I'll be giving a Newnans a try on Tuesday with the bride. Funny thing is I just told her where we are going and she said "oh isn't that the lake with all the allagators".

Re: GRASS SHRIMP
Well, we spent the morning on Newnan's lake and the report is as follows. 16 warmouths 2 catfish and countless 2 finger sized warmouths. We saw a few other boats there but didn't see nobody loading the boat. It took about 15 minutes first thing catching some shrimp and we had more than we could use.
