Finally broke a plot

Post by Iluv2hunt » Thu Jul 03, 2014 8:16 pm

Finally..was able to get to my disc and pull it around. I wanted to get this started in the spring but it was just too wet. This plot is about 50' wide and about 1/2 mile long and meanders thru.
Before n after. Obviously not all of it

Iluv2hunt,
That looks good to me! Same old story about the wet ground but now I'm laid up while my new knee takes root.
How many stand sites will you be able to have with a meandering 50' X 2640' food plot? Seems like you would have intersected several trails and be able to deal with about any wind condition.

I have 3 stands now. A ladder, a 2 man ladder and a ground blind. Soon as I get some hired help I'm gonna move things around a bit and build a box stand

Here's a video I took while discing yesterday of this area. It's a bit shaky, but you get the idea

That's pretty cool :) ! Several trips and that disk eats it up. What and when are you gonna' plant? Do you ever still hunt that plot? All that length and bends in the plot ought to make quite a hunt on them just right afternoons! Keep us updated on this plot.

I would sure like to be out there burnin' some diesel fuel. This new knee has put a kink in my food plot work as well as gardening and grass mowing :( . Maybe in a few weeks we'll get to do something in the woods.

How many times did you have to go over that plot to make it look so good?

It's hard to say how many times. The very first 2 pics is what it looked like from 2 weeks ago when I started. I made about 2 hours worth of passes (keep in mind it's about 1/2 mile long) and stopping here and there to let the ATV cool off. When I got done I sprayed the crap out of it with about 15 gallons of Glyco. When I got back this weekend, it was about 80% dead

I made another couple hrs of passes, again stopping to let the atv cool and running the pole saw clearing lanes. I again sprayed it with more glyco. Not gonna worry about planting it till right before bow season. I want the dirt to be right

In the second batch of pics, the first 4 are all in one spot. The first 2 pics of this batch are the same exact spot of the original pics. You can see what a difference 2 weeks makes.

The last 2 are a different area altogether

I wish I had a tractor, but I don't so I gotta work with what I got.

I had thought about hooking one of these ATV disks up to my jeep and pulling it around. Seems like it would be easy work for a jeep compared to an ATV.

If you have room it works just got to go slow. My buddy has a set that's 4' wide and he uses his truck to do his food plot. Sit in the ac and listen to music.

I'm sure that it will turn out great! I'm looking forward to see just how it turns out. This is a shorter version of Treefarmers plot.

Good steady rain at camp right now. Hope it makes it north a few miles to the lease
