back up side arm

Post by nachogrande » Mon Aug 24, 2009 10:55 am

do you carry a back up gun "bug" pistol while hunting deer, hogs, whatever? if so what & why & have you ever had to use it? up north I found no need for one but here in fla I'm a little concerned about snakes/hogs/bears/gators oh my. the few times I hunted solo down here I carried a ruger sp101 357 snubbie with 2- rounds of #9 snake shot & 3- rounds 180gr jhp. should I switch to my sigsauer 45 acp or glock 40 15-shot, with the first 2 rounds loaded with snake shot. whats your opinion?

i carry a S&W .40 M&P Sub compact. I mainly shoot my hogs in the trap with it. But i also carry it just incase if i need to shoot a charging hog or a hog that i shot with a bow and decided to charge me.

I carry a 9MM concealed. But hunting I carry a 357 S&W and the first 2 are with 38spcl rat shot. Ive used mine a couple times for hogs that weren't quite dead.
I did have mine cocked back last year and pointing at a bear that was sniffing the tree I was sitting in. Luckily he did not try to sit with me

I worry more about crazy people than I do wild animals. That is the main reason I carry

holy crap hellbilly. :big eyes: :big eyes: no need to field dress after that hog leg gets a hold of them huh.?? I give some of the guys in hunt camp a hard time for deer hunting with a 7mm mag. I know it is a good round, that is what i elk hunted with. but these guys hunt georgia with them but will not shoot over 150 yds with them. heck , you could do that with your pistol. "lol" "lol"

I carry a Glock 19, mostly for the crazies that are out there, but will do a lot of damage to a rogue Hog, 15 rounds go a long way
