Waiting on delivery of a .36 Isaac Haines-ish Lancaster-ish style squirrel rifle from a nice feller over on the TMA. Great price on what he and several other folks who know him and have seen it shoot, say is a pure tack-driver. I hope they are right!! Pictures when I get it next week.

congrats and good luck with the new flintlock I assume. (what else right) my Bro has a real old 36 cal that was converted to perc cap way back when. 36 cal = oo buckshot right? I believe he used them patched in that gun with no trouble.

We'll see. He said he's using a .35 ball on a .010 patch over 30gr of 3F.....I bet it's a fun gun to shoot if nothing else!!

Thanks. She's got a bit of a motley pedigree but she's won some shoots and killed plenty of squirrels I hear... I'm real happy to add her to the collection. Running out of wall space fast though.

Really great looking rifle. Wood is beautiful. Style looks like the first blackpowder I ever shot. Holding aim for that split second after squeezing the trigger, then waiting for the smoke to clear to see if you hit what you aimed at was a lot of fun!

very cool! I love old guns vs new, but I've never owned anything much older than 100 yrs. any idea of the age or mfg? and that patch box is it wood/copper or what, slides open I guess? can't see any hinge. and those 3 indents on the bottom of the patch box are they done on purpose/signify something? they look to regular to be a chips. don't have to tell you to enjoy because I know you will. just hanging it on a wall would bring me pleasure each time I saw it, better than a Picasso imo. let alone you get to shoot it. I can understand your addiction.

That's a nice piece right there! And just think. If you miss your shot, you can just swing that thing and club whatever it is you're shooting at...

How accurate are those rifles?

Deutze- I'd guess the age at 10 yrs maybe a little more. It was reworked pretty recentlythough. Pretty much a complete facelift. The patchbox is wooden and slides off. The indents are just decoration. Artistic flair if nothing else.
kc45- As accurate as you can shoot. I'm not kidding. These are top quality American barrels made to shoot. Accurately. Just like the originals our forefathers carried. The biggest issue most inexperienced guys complain about is the "delay"...that is a symptom of a poorly tuned lock. It's very easy to tune the locks to give instant ignition. There is a "recipe" you have to figure out for each gun to get it just right but once you do it's all up to how good you are with your shooting, the gun is doing it's job. Sort of like a modern bow and a traditional one. It pretty much depends on how good you are with it, since there nothing inherently inaccurate with it.
