I don't think any single dog can do everything.

I don't think there is a particular all around dog, there are so many breeds that have been fine tuned for hundreds of years if not longer to do different jobs. I do know you can teach a bird dog to find and bay hogs or almost anything. My favorite is a Plott hound, just because they seem smarter and easier to control than other hound breeds. Can't beat a good cur dog either, they hunt most all species and are smarter than hounds. Just my .02 cents

Why don't we ask what's the best hog dog, deer dog, and bird dog.

This is a good topic to start a lively discussion. Here's a picture of the ultimate over all hunting dog. She belongs to my wife and she will blood trail and find a deer. When she hits a fresh track and starts to trail, all you do is call her name and she will drop the track. Same thing happens if we jump a deer and she decides to run it by sight. Call her name and she comes right back. But you do have to tie her up when you are fishing, she apparently can't hear when she is in the water! She is 1/2 Chocolate Lab and 1/2 red Australian, 2 1/2 years old, great yard dog, keeps the squirrels in the trees, the cats on their toes and is my wife's constant companion when she is outside. Ultimate over all hunting dog?

Well bay dog, cold nose, catch dog, trailer? There's different breeds for different needs. Shoot I've seen mini short leg beagles doin the whole job. Their names were number1, number2 and number3! Lol.

I'd use plott curr mixes or either or then ( not a straight pit) but pit MIX as a catch dog.

Over all my favorite dog of choice is a blue tick, then beagle.
