I have been wanting to pick up a 6.8 for my kids to hunt with. I'm thinking, light and compact but a little more forgiving than a 223 on bad shots.
As far as the SSTs in 6.8 I have no input but I can say I have used them for three seasons now in my .06 from 20 to 200 yards and in my smoke pole from 20 to 150 yards and I have had perfect pass thru shots and havent hand the first deer or hog take a single step. For me its been just a good ole "DRT" round. But every body has something that works for them out of the gun they shoot, you just gotta find it.

It's funny but I have had the same experience using the SST in my slug gun 2 3/4" it's knocks them to the ground as hard as any round I have ever seen. Complete pass thru but it's a much heavier grain round

Like I tell people...if you find something that works, then more power to ya and stay with it. I can honestly say, every weapon I own from archery equipment to shotguns, turkey loads, muzzleloaders, and rifles in several calibers...I feel 100% confident every time I pull the trigger (assuming I do my part). It only took me 40 years to get everything figured out

I hear you all. I guess they work for me. I've also had good success with Federal Fusion ammo in .223. The 6.8 Fusion ammo does cycle reliably for some reason. Everyone seems to think they come under powered but some rounds cycle fine and others don't so I gave up on them for the 6.8.

I have been using my 6.8 for three seasons and also use 120 SST's. In that time I took a Hog, a Buck and a large Doe. All have been inside of 100 yds. but all were DRT. Like I said, I love mine and its my go to rifle for any hunting in the South Eastern US. Before the 6.8 I have been using my Rem 30-06 but IMO you don't need that big of a caliber in FL.

Good option for suppressed shooting! Quiet as heck with the right load.
