Going on my first Dove hunt!

Post by sam03 » Mon Sep 28, 2015 10:49 am

I'm going on my first dove hunt this weekend pretty excited. What ammo do y'all shoot? I have a Mossberg 835 that i plan on using. Any advice or helpful tips? Anyone else on here hunting Newberry this coming Saturday?

I bring a 12 gauge & a 20 gauge with a modified choke (bring all of your choke tubes in case birds are flying closer or further), but use the 20 gauge about 95% of the time. 7 1/2 shot size with a high brass shell for me if they are not too much more $, many don't feel it really matters, I wouldn't argue the point. plan on 50-100 shots, so bring plenty of ammo & fluids to keep hydrated, & a chair comes in handy during slow periods. Good luck & keep us updated. :skeet

You are going to love it! Doves are alot harder to hit than you expect. They dive a weave pretty quickly. Have fun!

You should give it another try IMO. With this cold front I'd bet a lot more birds have since found there way here.

Sam, I was hunting over the weekend and someone near by had a great dove hunt going on. It sounded like wwIII for quite sometime. That might be a thought, if you don't mind I'll dig around a little bit and see if I can find some info on one of these hunts.
