The shorter barrels are easier to manuever in the woods with. When duck/goose hunting the added length helps with continuing your swing on the birds and longer sight plane aids in hitting higher flying targets.

If one gun is the choice 12 ga with screw in chokes is the way to go. It is more versatile. I'm waiting on Kate to call to see if she has a shoot tomorrow or next weekend. I just got a champion Easy Hit sight for my shotgun. I went to GA last weekend and my dove hit percentage went up to almost 100%. It solved my cross dominance with my left eye and shooting right handed.
