In a few days once she gets adapted to her new surroundings, I will start working her on a hotdog

Best. Freaking. Dog. Ever.
I am truly amazed at how smart this dog is, and how quick she picks up on things.

Nice looking pup, deep down I want to get another cur dog but I know I would be tempted to hunt it . It wasnt a big deal before the kids come along but the last pup I got was a Black Mouth cross and I got her killed at just over a year old by rank ole boar hog and it was pretty rough telling the kids where the dog went. My oldest asked me to please not get another hog dog. So...its probably a lab for me. Good luck with your training.

That's my dogs name. She's a mut, but she's been a good dog. She's about 9 now but still has some grit in her. Just ask Crock! lol...

Yeah I wanted something a little tougher and redneck sounding, but my wife and kid overruled me on MY dog. Lmao. Too late now, already got name tags and collars on the way

1st training lesson today
Didn't go as smooth as I had hoped it would, but it was my/her first try at this. Guess I can't expect perfection right off the bat.

I put a piece of raw chicken on a bass rod, and threw it in the yard next door and reeled it in(about 30 yards total). Waited about 15 minutes and put her near the start of it.
2 issues. I don't think the scent trail was strong enough for her first time. and secondly, it rained the entire 15 minutes.
At least she headed the right direction and ended up at the right spot and got a prize (a nice raw chicken heart)

Great idea on the fishing rod. I'm going to use that next time.

There is nothing better than a cur. I always started our dogs on hotdogs, then liver. Have to be careful on liver for I had some that got to were they could wind it. Liver is strong smelling and bloody. Sadie is a good lookin pup

Good luck with the pup. Training them is half the fun.
