Re: Cleaning Ml's
Here is the trick that I use when cleaning my M/L, for years I used the hot water and soap method. someone told me to use 409 and when I tried it the results were unbelievable, it broke the sulfer loose like nothing before. I still use the hot water to flush everything out and help rinse the 409 out. Then afterwards use hoppes and stor for the year. ALTHOUGH I told my dad to try it one year and he didn't have any 409 so he tried to use "Kaboom" he said that as soon as he put it on the barrel the blueing ran down the barrel as fast as the Kaboom did needless to say he had to have the gun reblued.

Sounds easy enough. I will have to do this. I will have to take the scope off my inline and put it back on, but as long as i put scope in same spot i shoudnt have to boresight again. on the caplock i got should be the same process, without a scope to deal with. good deal thanks for the info ya'll!!

Re: Cleaning Ml's
30.06, There are many ways to clean a M/L and each has its merits but your last post here made me cringe, my friend! I'm a little bit old fashioned and once that 'scope is in place and shooting where it is supposed to, it stays on the rifle. Not trying to be a "know it all", but I've never really trusted the tip-off mounts or the Weaver style that was supposed go back on exacxtely as it came off. Depending on the 'scope, I would clean around it and figure some way to work on that bore without taking a chance on losing a scope setting that has been working. That's just my opinion and I realize a lot of folks have no problem removing and reattaching scopes without encountering problems, but in my camp we don't do that! Treefarmer

No need to remove scope. Set the pan of water on a milk crate or something and hang the scope out the side

So I busted out the CLP Break Free and went to town on it today. Shining like a mirror after about 30 minutes. Should be fairly easy to stay on top of it now that it is completely clean.

Re: Cleaning Ml's
I use the foaming t/c cleaner/solvent first. Then clean the nipple hole with a paper clip. Oil with Remington oil and mine is done. I use to have a little surface rust on my wolf in that break barrel bracket but thats it. I normally shot mine in a good season 2-3 times before I cleaned it again also. Once after practicing and once after the season ended.
