sambar Deer
Hi all
i got the draw for the sambar and was wondering if anybody got the draw and wanted to go up a day and scout. or if any one has some some words of wisdom.
let me know
Found a book on the ecology of the sambar deer on St. Vincent by a research station that is pretty cool but it does not beat shaking trees
thanks

Where did you come across the book?
I can read up while I wait to be picked next year, or the year after.
Good luck by the way

Never been, but from what I understand they are an aquatic deer. You gotta get your feet wet to find them
Dony1 has hunted it several times, Im sure he will chime in

Re: sambar Deer
I haven't hunted for the sambar but have been to the island a few times. Most of the sign I saw was on the east side but last year I saw 2 stags on the west side with another one bugling from the beach area to the south. I found my pics the other day but am still looking for the cord to download them. As soon as I find it I'll post them. If I was going for the sambar I think I'd camp on the east side which is closer to the swamp areas. Seems to me they feed on the water plants but travel around the marshes. We found a few scrapes around the perimeter of them. Be prepared to hike a few miles out to get away from the crowds. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.
